ELECTRONIC DICTIONARIES
Visit Aim High's website for comprehensive information on electronic dictionaries in 39 languages, including Franklin and Seiko models. Languages range from Albanian to Croatian to Finnish to Japanese to Romanian to Vietnamese and others, and of course the more usual Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese. www.translator.aimhi.com ECTACO Manufacturer of handheld electronic dictionaries in 35 languages. Ectaco dictionaries have cool electronics but are rather poor as dictionaries. In particular, if a word has more than one meaning (e.g. "to get"), the dictionary doesn't organize the translations by meaning or give context cues. All translations are given in an unordered list, making sorting out the intended meaning a tedious process. If you're on the spot in a foreign country, you won't be able to use this dictionary quickly. The cost is three times that of its competitor Franklin. Ectaco itself has only a 7 day return policy (hardly enough to try it out), although other sellers of Ectaco products often give 30 days. A cool feature is its "User's Dictionary" in which you can add new words. It does not have verb conjugation like the Franklin, but its text translation function can be used for this purpose. As nice as some of the electronic features are, they do not compensate for the ease of use and lower cost of Franklin dictionairies. www.ectaco.com FRANKLIN Franklin offers a variety of nice handheld electronic dictionaries for 11 languages -- Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Russian and Spanish. www.franklin.com
